1 Penguin Penguin wearing tight

in the fading Artic light

what a mocking hand or eye

gave you wings that cannot fly?

2 In the darkest heart of night

When the world’s fabric runs thin

A witch waits by candlelight

And watches the tide of dreams move in…

3 Long and heavy runs the train

all along a long dark night

crossing waves of silent fields

a thin scar of yellow light..

4 Crawling on tracks unforeseen

loaded with a load of dreams

lulled by this rusty song

so the train runs on along...

5 Air just feels the coming spring

like a wakening wild thing

stretching, playing in the trees

but there's war blowing in the breeze...

Old scientist

I struggled all my life for sense and truth

I searched for meaning, exorcising chaos

Or thought I did.

I notice now that every explanation

Just shoved the mystery

A little farther, closer to the end.

Snow motion

It snows so bad I cannot see my hands.

I only look away from mirrors, scanning screens

And no true dreams come visiting my night

Blind to myself I turn, but into what?

I just plucked the last apple from the tree

A barren bough I saw, the fruit forgot.

The world shrinks like a blanket

Too short to warm my feet

And if you call tonight you’ll only meet

My message on the answering machine.

No need to speak

And who cares if you only left me scars

I like them better than I would a poem

A web of scratches woven round my back

Like a strange map

And burning runes, red on my chest and hips

Where I can read the words you would not tell.
